WE ARE A COMPANY OF FIRSTS®
HE FIRST TO OFFER GOVERNMENT-SUBSIDIZED BOTANICAL CANNABIS-BASED PRODUCTS
In 2015, HempMeds® Brasil, a subsidiary of Medical Marijuana, Inc., became the first company to have a cannabis-based product, Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ (RSHO™), fully subsidized by a national government. Having medical marijuana covered under the national health care of a country as large as Brazil is a an important step towards the normalization of cannabinoids and other medical cannabis products as effective medications.
This milestone came after the company spent the previous months in tireless efforts to educate patients and their families, health officials and doctors, and Brazil’s lawmakers on the health and social welfare benefits of CBD hemp oil in their country, resulting in the prescription and import approval of RSHO™ for the treatment of epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and chronic pain and migraines.
The Brazilian government first subsidized the cost of a 30-day supply of RSHO™ for 15 year-old Gabriel César do Amaral. Gabriel has lived with a rare type of epilepsy called Myoclonic syndrome since he was 15 days old and has gone through several types of treatments in hospitals in Piracicaba, Brazil, that proved to be ineffective.
After Gabriel’s neurologist prescribed CBD hemp oil, Gabriel’s mother, Valdineia Cristina Vidal, appealed to their state and local governments to cover the costs of the RSHO™ for Gabriel. After winning the injunction in court, the state made the purchase of his first imported RSHO™ on Gabriel’s behalf.
RSHO™ was the first medical cannabis product to receive Brazilian government approval for import when ANVISA removed CBD from the controlled substance list in January of 2015. The government agency issued a statement on its website and also explains how to apply for an import certificate, and HempMeds® Brasil began working to with patients on the phone and through their website to help them navigate the difficult process of approval. Then, on July 13, 2015, Brazil began waiving the import tax on shipments of RSHO™ with ANVISA registration and documentation.
Now, Brazilians may order RSHO™ hemp oil products directly from HempMeds Brasil™ and send their bill to the government for reimbursement. The RSHO™ products are then delivered to the importer’s home without the payment of federal taxes and fully subsidized by the government. All purchases of RSHO™ by patients in Brazil are eligible to be covered by the government.
ALL PURCHASES OF RSHO™ BY PATIENTS IN BRAZIL ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE COVERED BY THE GOVERNMENT
“It is truly history in the making as we witness the Brazilian government taking decisive action to support the needs of their residents with subsidized access to RSHO – a CBD hemp oil product that is approved for import,” explained Dr. Stuart Titus, CEO of Medical Marijuana, Inc. “Brazil is setting an example for the world to follow when it comes to prioritizing health and well being of the country’s residents.”
Patients in Brazil interested in importing RSHO™ should visit the HempMeds® Brasil website or can call the company at 21 4063 9179 or 11 3197 4342.
