Medical Marijuana, Inc. Uses Safe Supercritical CO2 to Extract CBD Hemp Oil

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When Medical Marijuana, Inc. first began developing our process for creating our award-winning CBD hemp oil products, we carefully considered each step to ensure the safety and reliability of our CBD oil extract products.

This included our process for extracting the CBD oil from our hemp plants. There are many options we could have pursued, including different solvents for the extraction, but to create the purest, healthiest oils we could, we chose supercritical CO2 to extract our CBD hemp oil. Keep reading to learn more about our CBD oil extract.

What is Supercritical CO2 CBD Oil Extraction?

Supercritical CO2 extraction is a process that separates one component from another using fluid CO2 as a solvent. This process can be used to remove an unwanted component. Most famously, supercritical CO2 is used to remove the caffeine from decaffeinated coffee. However, it can also be used to collect specific components, like a plant’s essential oils, terpenes, and other valuable compounds. This makes it a safe method for creating CBD oil extract.

Carbon dioxide or CO2 is typically found in nature as either a gas at normal temperatures or, when frozen, a solid in the form of dry ice. Supercritical CO2 is carbon dioxide held in its fluid state by holding its temperature and pressure at or over their critical points. This liquid CO2 is an effective solvent for creating the hemp derived CBD oil extract used as a base in our products, like CBD oil vapes, tinctures, capsules, and more

To create CBD oil extracts using supercritical CO2, it is typically forced through finely ground plant material, pulling the constituent essential oils, lipids, and other desired material out of the plant matter. The fluid CO2 solvent is then removed from the final product by changing its pressure and thus changing its ability to function as a solvent, or its solubility.

Why Use Supercritical CO2 for CBD Oil Extract?

The most important reason we chose to use supercritical CO2 in our CBD oil extraction process is because it is non-toxic, helping to protect you, our end user, and your entire family. Supercritical CO2 is listed as GRAS (generally regarded as safe) by the FDA and is used extensively for commercial extraction in the food, flavoring, and perfume industries.

Supercritical CO2 is also safe to work with because it is non-flammable and doesn’t pose an inhalation danger. Since it is non-toxic, it also doesn’t require the same post-processing as more harmful solvents, lowering the overall cost of using supercritical CO2 to create CBD oil extracts, a savings we can pass on to you, our customer.

While many of the solvents used commercially to extract botanical oils are safe, others, like hexane, acetone, and butane, raise the risk of residual contamination of CBD products or environmental damage to local ecosystems.

Because we use clean supercritical CO2, we can be confident that we are producing only pure, high quality CBD oil extract.

However, your health is important to us, so we further ensure the quality of our products with our Triple Lab Tested® standard. This lab testing process examines our hemp oil at three points during our manufacturing process: after harvest, once it’s imported to the U.S., and again after it is crafted into our line of products.

Our Triple Lab Tested® guarantee helps protect you and your family from contaminants like mold, fungus, bacteria, and heavy metals and checks our CBD oil extract for consistent cannabinoid content. This is just one more step Medical Marijuana, Inc. has taken to bring you only the safest and most reliable CBD hemp oil products on the market.
