CTE is a degenerative neurological disease caused by repeated head trauma and only diagnosable with certainty in post-mortem examinations and can lead to symptoms like violent mood swings, depression and other cognitive difficulties. A September 26, 2017 interview with Fox Business’ Varney & Co., discussed current research on the diagnosis and treatment of CTE, and its relationship to professional sports organizations such as the NFL. Lowery also interviewed with CBS show Tiki and Tierney, where he discussed the applications of CTE prevention to other cases outside of the NFL, such as patients involved in traumatic car accidents.
