HempMeds® helps Hope4Harper break their $20,000 goal at 6th Annual Run4Hope Festival & 5K
This past weekend, Hope4Harper hosted the 2017 Run4Hope Festival & 5K to raise funding for research into neurological diseases. Medical Marijuana, Inc. subsidiary HempMeds® was proud to support this year’s event as a Platinum Sponsor, marking the 5th year in a row that HempMeds® has participated in the event.
Gray skies couldn’t keep away the excitement or the participants early Saturday morning, and by the end, blue skies and sun began to break through as 162 runners and their families gathered at this year’s 6th Annual Run4Hope on Saturday, September 16th, in Carrollton, Texas.
Although the 5K run was the event’s main draw, the Run4Hope also had a Kids Corral, pony rides, food trucks, snow cones and cotton candy, and a Vendor Village, increasing the event’s draw and making it a wonderful event for the entire family.
Hope4Harper set their fundraising goal at $20,000 for this weekend’s event. They had already raised $16,000 going into Saturday and totaled over $25,000 from the event, including runner registrations, non-profit donations, and more.
Hope4Harper was originally founded by Penny Howard, a Dallas mother raising a special needs daughter – Harper Howard. Sadly, Harper passed away in January of 2016, leaving a hole in the family. However, Harper lives on through the family’s decision to donate her brain and tissue samples to medical research. Harper was the first-ever brain and deep tissue sample donated to CDKL5 research in world history and is actively being used in a research capacity.
Her parents hope to keep Harper’s legacy alive by helping to fund this research through Hope4Harper and the Run4Hope. As an organization, Hope4Harper has raised almost $200,000 in donations for neurological research and plans to continue fundraising events in the future.
Fox 4 News Dallas covered the Run4Hope in depth, inviting runners out before the 5K run and cutting in for live coverage multiple times during the course of the event.
Fox 4 News interviewed Penny before the event began to learn more about Harper’s life and her medical condition. The station also took time to chat with Harper’s older sister, 9 year old Lily Howard, who gave some insight into what it was like having a sister like Harper, revealing Harper’s unique personality.
