Medical Marijuana, Inc. and its subsidiary HempMeds® Brasil were the focus of a recent article in Brazilian economic news source Valor. Meaning value in English, Valor is Brazil’s largest financial publication. The daily weekday newspaper sells nearly 60,000 print copies a day, in addition to its online readership.
The piece, published August 30th, began by profiling Medical Marijuana, Inc. President and CEO Dr. Stuart Titus. Dr. Titus, who has a background in both finance and physiotherapy, was drawn to the cannabis industry after he saw the benefits the therapeutic use of cannabinoids could provide and the vast growth potential in the industry.
“I grew up in a conservative neighborhood on Long Island, about an hour from New York, and at first, friends and family were very surprised,” Dr. Titus revealed to Valor. “But when I showed them studies and research on the potential benefits of cannabinoids, the attitude has changed.”
According to the article, the global legal recreational and medical cannabis market was estimated at $14.3 billion last year. The industry will continue to grow at an average rate of 21.1 percent in coming years, hitting $63.5 billion by 2024. The cannabidiol or CBD market, an increasingly important sector of the cannabis industry, will reach $3 billion by 2021.
Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s presence in Brazil began in 2014, when the company launched its local distribution branch, HempMeds® Brasil. Working closely with families and patients, health professionals, and government officials, HempMeds® Brasil’s mission is to provide high quality CBD oil products to everyone in Brazil who could benefit from a CBD treatment.
“The Brazilian authorities have put human needs above politics,” says Titus, regarding Brazil’s shift in policy regarding the authorization of non-psychoactive CBD for import.
HempMeds® Brasil recently hosted a successful doctor focused event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, introducing health professionals in the country to the potential of CBD in the treatment of their patients.
Dr. Titus told Valor, “Many [Brazilian] doctors are confident in prescribing [cannabidiol], while others are seeking information about their potential uses.” This change in perception concerning medical cannabis in Brazil has been swift, and many doctors are looking to educate themselves on best practices for prescribing CBD. HempMeds® Brasil is a valuable resource in the country for both patients and doctors to gain information on CBD.
